About the Campus

The College of Agriculture, Vijayapur is one of the constituent colleges of University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad. It is located around 10 km away from the Vijayapur town on national highway No.50. The college is on the lands of The Agricultural Research Station which was started as a Dry land Research Centre by then Bombay government in the year 1933 at Vijayapur (erstwhile Bijapur), which is locally called “Hitnalli Farm”, owing to the adjacent village ‘Hittinahalli’. The research station came under the jurisdiction of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore during 1965. The National Agricultural Research Project (NARP) was implemented on this campus in 1980 which was later upgraded to the status of Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) in 1990. The College of Agriculture, Vijayapur came into existence on 4th October 1990 under University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad as per recommendations of Shri Varadan Committee appointed by the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka. The college was initially started functioning in the NARP and NAEP buildings in the absence of a separate main building. A separate new building for the college with well equipped class rooms and laboratories was established in the year 2008 on an area of 5464 sq.m. Since then, the university administration kept added several other amenities including boys’ and girls’ hostels, play ground, gardens and farms, library building, auditorium, guest house, seed testing laboratories, bank, bio-input laboratory godowns, dispensary,veterinary hospital etc.,

The college has grown since 1990 in terms of academics, research and extension fulfilling the needs of the region that falls under Northern Dry Zone (Zone 3) of Karnataka State.   One of the advantages of this college is that it is located on one of the UAS regional campuses, which houses, Agricultural College, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Extension Education Unit, KVK and District Agricultlure Training Centre.  Since, all the three mandatory functions of the University  (Teaching, Research and Extension) are existing on campus, the students are greatly benefited for effective teaching.

 The Dean (Agri.) is the head of the college and also the head of Vijayapur campus. He is assisted by an Academic Unit headed by the Assistant Registrar, an Accounts Unit headed by the Assistant Comptroller, an Administrative Unit headed by the Assistant Administrative Officer and a Library headed by the Assistant Librarian. There are 17 departments in the College and each is headed by Head of the Department and consists of both teaching and non-teaching staff. In addition, Anti-ragging cell, Placement cell and Internal Complaint Cell (Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women Cell – PoSH) are also functioning.
